About Me

While originally from England, I now live (run, swim, and cycle) in Northern Ireland with my wife and two children.

My first degree was in cognitive science, where I studied intelligence, thinking, and problem-solving. I then completed a master's degree in the philosophy of mind to further my understanding of consciousness, focus, and mental states.

I ran my first marathon (26.2 miles) 20 years ago in London. Since then, I've completed multiple other marathons, ultramarathons (including 100km and double trail marathons), and most recently, an Ironman (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile cycle, and 26.2-mile run).

I'm not fast, but I am persistent!

Between running, swimming, cycling, and being a parent, I completed my Ph.D. in 2019.

I studied endurance athletes in the lab and at events to understand how their mindsets enable them to push their physical limits to the edge.

To do so, I measured everything from their VO2 max (maximum oxygen consumption) and lactate threshold to their personality, motivation, and mental toughness.

Through six years of dedicated research–working with endurance experts and athletes–it became clear that while the body's performance is essential, success ultimately lies in what happens in the brain.

Since my Ph.D. I've been supporting individuals and teams in achieving their best performances more of the time – while creating healthy, balanced, growth mindsets.

As a parent of two strong-minded daughters, I want to promote a supportive, encouraging, and strength-minded environment that prioritizes growth, healthy competition, performance, and psychological well-being.

My mission is to share science-led performance and positive psychology tools and techniques to support high school and college students in producing their best performances while becoming mentally fit for their lives inside and outside sports.

I'm taking what we have learned from elite and junior sports to build mental toughness, resilience, motivation, and focus to help our high school and college athletes thrive.
